Nighttime Skincare FAQs
A night cream is specifically formulated to be thicker with higher concentrations of skincare ingredients to give your skin ample moisture overnight. While we sleep, our skin enters “repair mode” where it regenerates cells, repairs UV damage from the day, and boosts collagen. While your skin is focusing so much on damage control, you can experience a natural moisture loss because the skin’s barrier becomes more fragile at night. Enter: A barrier-soothing, ultra-rich night cream. Wake up with hydrated, glowing skin after using any one of our nighttime moisturizers.
The best night cream for aging skin is our Milk Rx. It’s a doctor-formulated, dermatologist-approved moisturizer that’s 4x more potent than retinol–with zero irritation. This night cream helps to lift, firm and increase collagen production up to 31% for a visibly thicker epidermis (AKA fewer fine lines and wrinkles!). It’s rich enough to use as a night cream, though it can be used in the morning, too, for more anti-aging effects.
There are so many dermatologist-recommended night cream options. For example:
- Dr. Trisha Khanna has seen real-life improvements for those who use Milk Rx.
- Our bestselling Bloom Cream is dermatologist recommended and safe for all skin types.
- Lightweight oils like our Oh! Mega Milk and ceramide-rich Milk Drops are dermatologist-approved and recommended.
Absolutely! After using a nighttime face mask like our resurfacing Potato Peel or our better-aging Milk Rx Sheet Masks, you’ll want to follow up with a night cream to lock in all the skin-loving ingredients you’ve just put on your skin. Another tip we suggest: Use our Midnight Milk overnight cream for even deeper hydration and elasticity in the morning!
If you’re someone with really dry skin, you can definitely apply night face cream during the day. However, be sure to follow up with some suncare if you’re planning to go outside.
If you’re wondering how to apply night cream on the face, follow these steps:
- Cleanse your face with lukewarm water.
- Tone with our hyaluronic acid & squalane mist.
- Now you can decide whether you want a serum or a mask. If you prefer a sheet mask, try our Milk Rx Compress. If you prefer a serum, try our Dream Booster bakuchiol serum.
- Once the mask is off or the serum is applied, it’s time for eye cream. Dab a little just around the eyes, using featherlight pressure.
- Finally, apply your night cream of choice all over the face and neck. Massage gently.
If you want to use vitamin C as a night serum, here’s how you should do it:
- First, cleanse your face.
- If you use a toner, go ahead and apply that and let it dry.
- Now it’s time to apply your Vitamin C. Using a few drops, press the vitamin C serum into your skin, all over your face.
- Because this is nighttime, feel free to follow up with an eye cream and your favorite night cream.
A good nighttime facial moisturizer is one that rehydrates your skin, as you lose moisture throughout the night. Look for ingredients like ceramides, goat milk, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and antioxidants. One of our favorite night creams (and day creams!) is our Bloom Cream. It’s designed to mimic your natural skin barrier and works with all skin types.
It depends on what type of face mask you're using. If you’re using a depuffing and moisturizing eye mask, those are great for daytime. However, if you’re using an exfoliating mask like our Potato Peel, we suggest using those at night and following up with a night cream.
