It’s very bittersweet for me to see the first season of The Fabulous Beekman Boys come to an end. As you’ve watched Brent, Josh, and Farmer John go through the seasons on the farm, I have watched the last year of my own life (behind the camera) go by in 22 minutes + commercials every Wednesday night. The experience of making the series was exhilarating and exhausting; every shoot another adventure in the ongoing story of the Beekman and Brent & Josh.
It’s an interesting existence when your own life actually revolves around documenting the experiences of someone else’s life. I cried with them over the pigs, spent hours wrapping soap with Brent in hopes of taking a little off his plate, and was probably more nervous for Josh than he was for himself when he cooked for Jean-Georges.
There are many things I can think to share with everyone about Brent, Josh and Farmer John as the series winds down. I could tell you that Brent is the hardest working person I’ve ever met in my life, and being around him makes you want to work harder, too (although sometimes it just makes you want to take a nap). And I could mention that at any given moment you can walk into the barn and find Farmer John there with his girls, willing to teach you something new about them with every visit. And I could tell you that Josh is not only the wittiest, most clever wordsmith around, I’m also pretty sure the first time he did the model walk it was his way of cheering me up during a tough day, because he’s that kind of guy.
But since you are reading this, I don’t really need to convince you how wonderful Brent, Josh, and John are. So instead, I want to acknowledge a few other people who have devoted the last year of their lives to the series. Without this team, the show would not be what it is, and I am forever grateful to them for sharing their talents.
Thanks to you all for watching. We’ll see you next year.
