Shortly after our founders purchased Beekman 1802 Farm in 2007, they received a letter in their mailbox from a neighbor, John Hall. “Farmer John” was looking for a new home for his 80 goats, and Josh and Brent told him to “come on over.” It was a decision that changed all their lives for the better.

During the Recession of 2008, the trio started making goat milk soap and cheeses with neighboring artisans to help pay the mortgage on the farm. Over a decade later, John still lives on the property with his now 147 goats. He and his herd have won awards for productivity and agricultural stewardship. And all of Beekman 1802’s artisanal cheeses are made from milk from “John’s girls."
