One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to decorate any space is by filling it with music. Using our laptop computer and wireless speakers, we can set up a sound scape throughout the house with just the touch of the button. Guests are often humorously called to breakfast with the “Call To The Cows” section of the William Tell Overture by Gioacchino Rossini (you’ve heard it in Bugs Bunny cartoons for years). A hike might be preceded by the sounds of reveille to get people in the spirit, and a simple sound track can set the theme for a dinner party even if you don’t have a single second to spend on decorations.
We carry this idea for music into the Mercantile, too.

Any and all of the Robert Shaw Christmas recordings–still the best recordings of traditional hymns and carols!
My mother listened to Spike Jones Christmas as a child, and so did we when we were kids …”All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth!…”. It has been a lifelong favorite. It’s very fun, goofy, and some of the songs are sung in Pig-Latin!
Check out Snow Angels by Over the Rhine! My husband discovered them a few years ago while on his long commute home from work in a snowstorm. We have bought most of their cds and love their sound!
no better camp than i want a hippotamus for christmas! it’s right up there with the chipmunks and charlie brown!
My favorite Christmas song, as a parent of adult children, is “The Man Who Would Be Santa” by Vertical Horizon. Makes me cry every time I listen.
ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS – NEVER GET SICK
OF HEARING THEM
The Statler Brothers Christmas Albums are the best. Several old favorites and many new ones they have written. They’re fabulous story tellers in song version and make you feel warm & fuzzy all over.
The Platter’s entire holiday disc!!!!
I was able to listen to Magnet’s “Let It Snow” by streaming it over youtube – its a fun song. But, I can’t find much information about it – and can not find anywhere on the internet to download it, only found the you tube stream… any thoughts?
“sacred arias” everything on this andrea bocelli cd is great!!!!!!!! it sounds best with a bit of volume– you can’t help but be moved by his beautiful voice!!!!!
Favorite song *SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS BY JOHN LENNON**
I’m really enjoying a new version this year of one of my long-time favorites: “Baby It’s Cold Outside” sung by Chris Colfer and Darren Criss from the ‘GLEE’ Christmas album.
And – ditto for “Winter Wonderland” by Johnny Mathis. I’ve played that one every Christmas since I was a kid and the album was a new release.
I would add “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” sung by Nat King Cole AND “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” by Johnny Mathis. My Christmas isn’t complete without them.
oops, that youtube link in my previous post isn’t good. sorry.
The Wexford Carol performed by Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss is one of my favorites. It is a very old traditional Irish carol, haunting and beautiful.

I LOVE all the music. One of my favorites is Ave Maria. I was just turned on to pandora.com music. Unlimited free music! Check it out. Merry, happy! Can’t wait to listen to your selections.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24
Can’t wait to sample some of these…I love getting some new music in the mix. I’ve been listening to Take Six’s album “He is Christmas” for years and still love it. It’s part intimate, part sacred, and part fun!
“Christmas Vacation” sung by Mavis Staples
Ding Dong Merrily On High by the Celtic Woman
“The Holly and the Ivy” done by the LSO Orchestra and Chorus. It’s very uplifting and very Medieval!
When Blossoms Flowered amid the Snow, and The Christmas song
Ever since I was a small child I’ve been a huge fan of Dean Martin. Just love his version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”
Any version of Marshmallow World always brings a smile. Other contenders are Suzy Snowflake (Rosemary Clooney)and on a more serious note, Oh Holy Night.
“My Grownup Christmas List by Amy Grant
‘O Holy Night”
Feliz Navidad! It always puts a smile on my face and makes me want to dance!
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams. It makes me sway with seasonal joy.
From the Jewish Girl……
My favorite, the one that brings it all together as far as what I feel Christmas is all about. Basically being there for the ones you love the most.
Christmas Shoes by NEWSONG

The entire Charlie Brown Christmas album…I never get sick of it!
We love The Man With All The Toys sung by the Beach Boys. An awful song really, but how can you not love a surfer Christmas song?
Little Drummer Boy by anyone.
Carol of the Bells by Trans Siberian Orchestra
I actually have two: Santa Baby sung by Eartha Kitt and It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” sung by Johnny Mathis. I especially like the line “and mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again!”
My sister just posted about Zooey’s singing on Elf, yesterday. She has a great voice. I need to find those songs, above, and make a cd.
My absolute favorite Christmas song is “O Holy Night”. Makes me cry and tingle, at the same time.
Where do you find most of the songs? Have you heard them before or do you just look up your favorite artists and see what they’ve recorded?
