What Dr. Brent Says about Melons…

Melon

Melon

ONE OF MY PERSONAL FLAWS is that I am an ice-cruncher.  I always ask for extra ice in any beverage that I’m served.  I suppose I’m hot-blooded and need things served ice-cold.

In the dog days of summer, nothing is better than ice-cold melon.  Chop your melon into cubes and put them in the freezer for a while or put the chunks in the blender and use the pulp to make all-natural popsicles.  Far better than anything you’d buy off of the Good Humor truck.

All melons are good sources of Vitamin C.  Honeydews are a good source of potassium, cantaloupe is high in Vitamin B6 and Vitamin A.  And watermelon is a good source of lycopene, an anti-oxidant that may help protect against cancer.
