IF YOU’VE BEEN READING CAREFULLY, you already know that I can make a sandwich out of almost anything. Cucumber sandwiches, tomato sandwiches, and even onion sandwiches (with mayo) were a staple of my childhood. When I was in college and medical school and time and dollars were tighter, nothing seemed to beat iceberg lettuce and American cheese (with mayo of course) on whole wheat bread.
Depending on the variety, lettuce can be a good source of folate and Vitamin C. Romaine and loose leaf lettuce contains 5 to 6 times the Vitamin C and up to 10 times the Vitamin A of iceberg. (They don’t teach you anything about nutrition in med school!)

Oh mercy, now I AM hungry!!!Today I made a pickle and cheese sandwich, then keep adding stuff to it,like some peppers, and onions and a piece of grilled eggplant!!!!then added a few potato chips like my brother did, to give it extra crunch. This site looks better and better.
PS: My Aunt May in Chattanooga says I MIGHT COULD have a sandwich!!
)))))))( You reckon that is laughing??)
Potato chip sandwiches are a fond memory of my childhood. When the potato crop comes in this year, I’m going to make homemade chips so that I can revive the chip sandwich!
Potato chips, peanut butter, and banana sandwiches have everything you need on them.
I really love the covers of the D. Landreth Seed Co. seed packets!
My daddy used to sing this silly song like a Bach cantata bout Let Us Have Some Lettuce! He would keep on going until Mama begged him George, please quit that, Sing some Irving Berlin. I love silly so much.
I love your show. I get a good laugh every Wednesday night. How lucky you both are to live your dreams.
I know the sandwich you ate that was made with the “bacon”, arugula, and pear seems easy to make but I wonder if you can tell us exactly how it was made? Toasted wheat bread? Mayo? It looked like a great sandwich.
Thanks.
I used to eat plain ol’ mayo sandwiches as a child, as well as mayo and lettuce (no meat on it), raw potatoes, also raw sweet potatoes, and I would roll bread slices into a hard ball and eat it. Yes, I was a weird child. ~sigh~
Not to get away from lettuce but have you ever tried peanut butter, mayonase, and pickels? Wonderful! My grandmother made it for me as child and my mother continued it into my highschool days. Sounds gross but is great-try it.
HI, Craig
I’ll try anything once.
Reminds me of Old Count Basie Song
Mama Don’t Want No Peas an’ Rice an’ Coconut Oil
Transfered this song off 78rpm we got at Yard Sale.
Being a southern girl originally from Atlanta, I used to eat cucumber sandwiched and tomato sandwiches all the time as a child. This year in my raised bed garden I plan to grow cucumbers so we can make homemade pickles. Here in Florida it’s so darn hot most of the time. I can’t plant any cool weather crops until atleast Oct, maybe not even til November.

All of those sound FAB. Nothing, however, could beat the sandwich made from the bacon of Porgy & Bess. Omigosh, the crunching sound that came from that bread….sigh. I WILL have a wheel of that cheese one day!
PS, the episode of the pork harvest was OUTSTANDING…”as it should be”.
