Sharon Springs was once one of the most famous spa destinations in the world, boasting three different mineral springs – magnesium, sulfur, and iron. First prized for their healing powers by Native Americans, the waters later spawned grand hotels and bathhouses which drew distinguished crowds from the mid-19^th century up until the 1970s.  It’s summer social scene was covered by the New York Times society pages,  which chronicled the arrival and activities of presidents, celebrities, and elite world travelers.

After a steep decline in the late 20^th century, the town has rallied, capitalizing on its historic roots to draw in visitors with popular annual festivals.
