A lot of people think that The Amazing Race is over for us. But the beauty of The Amazing Race is not just that we got to visit a lot of places in this world that we wouldn’t have otherwise….but it’s also that we got to meet 20 other super-cool people whom we never would’ve met otherwise.

This past weekend we had a Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook signing scheduled at Williams-Sonoma Mazza Gallerie in Washington, DC. Just another chance to get together with our friends in the nation’s capital and gossip about Sharon Springs, right? Nope. Something special was in store. Literally. Now we’ve had a lot of out-of-the-ordinary happenings at our happenings. The occasional block-long model walk. A meeting that led to a meeting that led to an audition to appear on The Amazing Race. 1984. 9th grade. Hated gym. Pretty predictable story, really. Scrawny, awkward, shy kid hates getting picked last for every team. Suffers indignities. Cowers in locker room. Makes up fake illnesses. Throws like a girl. Actually, worse than most girls.

There are hardly any reminders of previous first ladies in our culture, with the possible exception of Dolly Madison Raspberry Zingers and The Betty Ford Center. (Neither of which, hopefully, any of you are reminded of on a daily basis.)

A lot of people thought we’d never make it to the Omaha Home & Garden Expo this past weekend due to Winter Storm Nemo, but those people apparently didn’t catch a little show called The Amazing Race. Last night was our final night as residents of NYC.

It snowed today.

That’s it.

Not a lot. Not a dusting.

It wasn’t the soft blanket-y holiday-type snow. Or a SNOWPOCALYPSE.

Just some snow.

I thought I’d share the two riddles included in the almanac…it’s fun to imagine Beekman and his children sitting around the fire puzzling out the answers. Can you solve them?
